I learned that there are 3 types of sign language:
American Sign Language (ASL)
Pidgin Sign Language (PSE)
Manual English (ME)

Important tips to remember in the classroom for students with hearing losses
  • Use as many verbal cues as possible
  • Rephrase if the child does not understand rather than repeat the same words over and over
  • Write key words of an idea or lesson on the board
  • Speak clearly and with moderate speed

How Sign Language helps hearing children

  • Helps build connections in the brain which increases learning ability
  • Helps develop English vocabulary
  • Helps spelling skills and reading skills
  • Helps self-esteem
